Metabolism and Diets

What is Your Metabolism

Blue indicates link

It refers to all the chemical processes that are going on inside your body. It is the rate at which nutrients from our food are broken down. It also helps these nutrients to repair and build up our bodies. This chemical process works twenty-four hours a day and seven days a week throughout our lifetime. Metabolism keeps us alive and is responsible for our organs to function normally. Breathing, repairing cells, and digesting food.

Boosting or Changing Your Metabolism

We need to talk about a thing called BMR:

This is the number of calories your body needs to stay alive. It keeps your body functions and organs working efficiently to turn food into usable energy. This is why what you eat is key to almost every aspect of good health. A diet that includes fat, carbohydrates, and protein will keep your body functioning at its optimum levels. This will also keep your hormone levels in check. Proteins burn more calories than carbs and fat. We also need to add more fiber to our diets to help optimize our BMR. Once again everything in balance is key.

Metabolism and diets. Food list

Taking vitamins or nutrients does not have the power to increase or decrease your BMR. Because of where we get our food and what we eat it is essential it may be essential to take essential vitamins and nutrients to supplement our diets. We will get into this later on in this article.

Drastically reducing our calories for an extended period of time will cause our BMR to drop. It is not advisable to go on a diet for a short period of time and then go back to eating and drinking like we used to do. This kind of practice may cause weight problems more severe than what they may have been. I am referring to some of those New Year’s resolutions.

Exercise And Your BMR

High-intensity interval training is one of the most advantageous forms of exercise. This burns more calories in half the time as a steady cardio workout. Another way to boost your BMR is to increase your muscle mass. Resistance training for lean muscle mass will increase your metabolism. Excessive exercise without taking enough recovery time between workouts along with adequate sleep is essential to give your muscles a chance to rebuild and your hormones a chance to return to their normal state. Lifting weights is a good practice, it is better to lift heavier weights for 6 to 8 reps than it is to lift smaller weights and more reps. Of course the more you exercise the more protein you will need.

Are You Looking To Lose Weight

Remember your metabolic rate is the rate you use calories to provide energy for your body. Age, gender, and the things you can’t change largely determine your metabolic rate. We know that diet, exercise, and body composition also influence your calorie-burning potential. I do not recommend those diet pills, I am strongly against those diet sodas too.

I also feel there are a lot of dangers when it comes to artificial sweeteners. I prefer a more natural approach to maintaining a proper body mass index (BMI). Pretty much are you the right weight for your height and so on? Remember it is essential to exercise, hydrate, get plenty of sunshine,(if you are living in a place that does not have a lot of sunshine Vitamin D3 is a great way to supplement this), and sleep.

Natural Ways To Losing Weight

Ginger:

Ginger has many health benefits it is great for maintaining good cholesterol levels, (HDL). This spice is effective for reducing body weight. Taking a supplement of 250mg four times a day is far better than any diet pill and it has no side effects.

Turmeric Curcumin:

Also, a spice with many health benefits will promote healthy weight loss. Turmeric reduces inflammation that may contribute to obesity. It interacts with a specific type of fat that reduces inflammation. It is recommended to take 400 to 600 mg three times a day.

Forskolin:

This is an extract from the mint family that supports thyroid function. The thyroid is considered the master of our metabolism, studies suggest that forskolin can help your metabolism even after weight loss. Studies have shown that women and men taking this supplement reported reduced fatigue and hunger. Please if you are taking medication for high blood pressure do not use this herb as it may cause your blood pressure to go too low. It is recommended to take 250 mg twice daily for a period of twelve weeks.

Garcinia Cambogia:

I am sure many of you have heard of this herb especially if you have been looking at ways to lose weight. This is actually a tropical fruit and is a popular weight loss supplement, of course, most of us will take it in the pill or capsule form.

It is high in hydroxy citric acid(HCA). Studies show that HCA increases fat burning, reduces body mass index, and improves cholesterol levels. It also helps your mood by increasing your serotonin levels. The typical dosage for Garcinia Cambogia is 500 to 1,000 mg taken three times a day with plenty of water thirty to sixty minutes before meals.

Cayenne Pepper:

Adding this spice to your meals can help increase your metabolic rate. Cayenne pepper is hot by the way. These hot peppers can bump up your metabolic rate and help you burn an extra seventy-six calories per day by stimulating your nervous system.

Fenugreek:

Several studies have found that fenugreek may help control appetite and reduce food intake to support weight loss.

One study in 18 people showed that supplementing with 8 grams of fenugreek fiber daily increased feelings of fullness and reduced hunger and food intake, compared to a control group.

Another small study found that taking fenugreek seed extract decreased daily fat intake by 17%, compared to a placebo. This resulted in a lower number of calories consumed over the course of the day.

Oregano:

Oregano contains something called carvacrol,  which is a powerful compound that may help boost weight loss.

One study in mice on a high-fat diet that either contained carvacrol or did not found that those who received carvacrol gained significantly less body weight and body fat than the control group.

Carvacrol supplements were also found to directly impact some of the specific genes and proteins that control fat synthesis in the body.

Ginseng:

Many studies have suggested that this powerful plant could aid weight loss.

Korean ginseng twice daily for eight weeks resulted in reductions in body weight, Ginseng combatted obesity by altering fat formation, and delaying intestinal fat absorption.

Black Pepper:

Black pepper contains a powerful compound called piperine, which helps with potential weight loss.

One study found that supplementing with piperine helped reduce body weight in rats on a high-fat diet, even with no changes in food intake.

In Conclusion:

Maintaining proper metabolism is crucial for many of the processes that are going on in our bodies. We have ways of controlling our metabolism which in turn controls how we feel and look. Essential in maintaining proper hormonal levels it also helps us maintain a healthy weight.

I always believe in natural ways of treating our bodies. I object strongly to any kind of diet sodas or artificial sweeteners and I have articles on the dangers of consuming these items. My reasons are explained on my website. Always remember it is essential to have a balance with whatever you are doing.
